Last year well before we moved to a beautiful community South of Atlanta, GA called Serenbe, I met a very handsome man named Brian Clowdus. We actually met online first when our mutual friend Monica suggested we meet after she knew of our shared love of all things Frozen. Yes, as in the kids movie.
Brian and I started an online relationship that blossomed into a friendship. One my husband Eric was more than happy to encourage since Brian doesn’t play for my team. lol Brian is the Founder and Executive and Artistic Director of the Serenbe Playhouse. He’s also gorgeous and single! I love plays AND musicals and my husband and I became instant fans of the Playhouse before we even moved to our new house in Serenbe. Last Spring we were invited to our first Serenbe Playhouse Gala. We had NO idea what to expect. We didn’t live in the neighborhood yet and we didn’t really know anybody. The theme was Emerald Ball to promote that Summer’s show The Wizard of Oz. Brian told us to embrace the Emerald Ball theme and dress up if we wanted to, so we did. However, as we showed up to the Gala, we noticed that nooo one was really dressed up. As in we were pretty much the only ones. lol So Eric and I looked at each other and said…let’s just own it! We had a BLAST! The food was yummy, the drinks were a plenty and everybody was just letting loose and having a great time. There were performances from the Serenbe Playhouse actors, a live and silent auction and dancing well into the evening.
Months later, Brian asked me to CHAIR the Serenbe Playhouse Gala for 2015. I had that Arnold from Different Strokes moment and was like, “whatcha talkin’ bout Brian??!!” Me? I have never chaired anything in my life. I am a busy mom of two plus I knew I wasn’t going to be at the radio station come the next Gala so I said, “well, if you are asking me because I work for a radio station…wellllll, I maaaay not be the gal for you.” To which Brian replied, “I am asking you because you are fabulous!” Ladies, as you know, when a man tells you that you are fabulous, especially a good-looking gay man, you know your only answer is YES!
So here we are a little over a month away from the 2015 Serenbe Playhouse Gala and I am excited to invite all of you! It’s been such a fun adventure AND it has really encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. It’s also neat to show my oldest daughter Lily what it is like to commit to something from start to finish. I met new friends, have seen some fabulous shows by the Serenbe Playhouse and have really gotten a behind-the-scenes look into the world of theater. Especially this beautiful world of Serenbe Playhouse theater which if you didn’t know, is like no other because there is no actual theater. ALL of the shows are site specific, meaning outside in the community of Serenbe. I have seen Oklahoma in a barn, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in horse stables, The Snow Queen out in the middle of a natural playground and The Wizard of Oz right near a farm.
This year’s Serenbe Playhouse Gala theme is “La Pasion in the Street That Never Sleeps!” It is inspired by the upcoming Summer show Evita, sooooo break out your Argentinien flair and prepare to tango the night away! Oh and keep your eyes peeled for Evita singing from a balcony above the Gala! It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it! All proceeds benefit the Serenbe Institute for Art Culture & the Environment, which is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization..(aka it’s a tax write-off) and Serembe is only 40ish minutes outside of Atlanta, so CLICK HERE for tickets and mark your calendar for Saturday night April 25th.
I am so proud to be a part of this year’s Serenbe Playhouse Gala and I hope to see you there!!
